"The goal has always been to create a place where anyone interested in textiles and making can come and learn. Elvet Woollen Mill i an internationally renowned destination for textiles w perience the processes and entire history of mechanised weaving first hand."
The journey began in October 2011 when Daniel, armed with determination and a vision, rescued a rusting loom from a Welsh barn. Unbeknownst to him, this marked the genesis of the first micro-mill in London, a unique venture that would later find its true home in the heart of Wales.
The London Cloth Company's journey, marked by the tenacity of its founder, led to Elvet Mill in Wales, where most of the machinery now lives. Our weaving repertoire extends beyond woollens to include rope-dyed indigo cotton, making us one of the only mills in the UK weaving true rope-dyed indigo fabrics. The catalog boasts over 60 indigo cloth variations, including the coveted Union Cloth with an indigo cotton warp and a Shetland wool weft.
Our commitment to quality woven cloth, particularly woollens, is woven on carefully restored shuttle looms dating back to the 1870s. Although our physical location has shifted, the traditional practices remain. The rhythmic dance of threads is a constant in our ever-expanding family of looms. We specialise in weaving fabrics to order, with an online shop featuring varied meterage from our stock.
Our bespoke services remain a cornerstone, inviting designers, companies, and individuals to craft something uniquely tailored to their style or requirements. As the looms hum with history, the London Cloth Company invites you to be part of this living narrative. Step into our world, explore the rhythmic dance of threads, and bring home a piece of woven heritage from the heart of Wales. Each creation, whether ordered or chosen from our stock, carries the essence of tradition, a testament to the artistry and mastery that defines the London Cloth Company in its Welsh home.
What sets The London Cloth Company apart is Daniel Harris' commitment to genuinely sustainable practices and locally sourced materials. The mill collaborates with nearby sheep farmers to procure premium-quality Welsh wool, ensuring a seamless connection between the landscape, flock, and the final woven masterpiece. This dedication to traceability not only contributes to the quality of their products but also reflects a deep respect for the environment and the agricultural communities.
